Deceiver calls out Victoria Beckham for the thinspiration she’s become

I admit it — I like Deceiver.com.  It’s a fun site to peruse when you’re determined to spend just another few minutes procrastinating.
Today, Deceiver’s uber bloggers are kvetching about Victoria Beckham.  She’s claiming that it hurts her to have people say she’s abusing (or using in any form) diet pills.
I’m not sure where to start with that one.
First […]

Is “thin” still in?

You know, I talk a lot about people I see and know who are anorexic, bulimic, et cetera.
But I’m starting to wonder if “thin” is still “in” the way it once was?
When I look through many women’s mags, I notice that the models are lean, but not scrawny.  Typically, they look pretty fit rather than pretty deathly.
Is […]

Does dishing about anorexia and thinspiration in celebs make it “cool”?

This morning, I actually clicked on an AOL homepage link talking about Courtney Love, the very quirky (and unstable, in my opinion) rocker chick who was married to (or at least living with) Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain.
The link shows a pic of Courtney looking quite skinny.  Truly, she does look pretty sick.  But is this a […]

Thought-provoking article about eating disorders from an Arab Emirates newspaper

I came across this article, “Dangerous Territory“, from The National, an Arab Emirates newspaper with an online presence.  In it, the author, Caroline King, talks about her daughter’s struggle with an eating disorder.
Not only do I think the article is poignant and candid, but I also believe it shares some insights that people need to realize, […]

Have you visited the pro-ana sites?

I talk a lot about Ana and pro-ana groups.  But I’m wondering — do any of you actually visit the pro-ana sites?
If you do, I’m wondering if you could tell me what really attracts you?  Is it the idea that you feel less “alone” when you’re surrounded by a community of likeminded persons?  Do you […]

Which celebs have you used for “thinspiration”?

Practically every anorexic (and I’m guessing this holds true for bulimics, too) has looked upon a starlet as a form of thinspiration.
I was no exception.
Even though I had an eating disorder in the days when dinosaurs freely roamed the earth, I still had my thinspo favorites.  They included Cindy Crawford (who would probably look huge […]

If this is too snarky…

… just let me know.
I’m not putting this here to offend anybody, so if you’re naturally thin, please know that I think you’re terrific.  I just think it’s ironic that so many non-ED people see Kate Moss as a “twig”, while those with EDs (and I would have included myself in this category once-upon-a-time) see […]

The Size Zero Domino Effect

Little did I know that I would become a Bollywood Blogger, but here is yet another story from India and the Middle East.
I came across an article on Zee News that suggests Indian actress Kareena Kapoor’s shrinking body is a kind of thinspiration to her colleagues/competition.  (Not familiar with Ms. Kapoor?  See previous Breaking the Mirror posts here […]
