I pinch. A lot.
I pinch spices.
I pinch pennies.
I pinch my son’s cute little nose.
But I also pinch my body. All the time.
I didn’t realize how often I do this until I really took stake of my pinching. I was appalled. I really do pinch my “fat” (or any skin I can grab) whenever I get the […]

(I’ve been getting some negative emails lately — must mean I’m doing something right, huh?)
In an effort to stir up even more controversy, I’m going to direct you to this link. It sheds some ugly light on the corporation behind the much-hyped Dove Campaign for Real Beauty.
Tell me what you think… is what the bloggers are saying […]

As I was indulging in this piece of drivel about the new 90210 starlets’ shrinking bodies, I was again struck by the realization that I have no idea what’s thin, what’s fat and what’s normal anymore.
I look in the mirror one day and say, “Okay, I look pretty healthy.” The next day, I can barely […]

I just came across a book called “this is who I am” on Amazon.com by way of visiting a reader’s blog (hi, Kyla, and thanks for visiting Breaking the Mirror!)
Do check it out… It sounds amazing — I think I’ll have to buy it.

I’ve heard a number of different definitions for the non-medical term “tanorexia”.
Some people give a label of “tanorexics” to those who tan in order to look thinner. (Darker skin = illusion of smaller body.)
Others say that tanorexia is a disorder characterized by individuals absolutely NEEDING to get to the tanning bed on a regular (daily, even?) […]

Our latest giveaway (for a copy of the DVD of disFIGURED) has already generated tons of interested, though I could never have guessed how touching it would be to hear how some people see themselves.
Allow me to explain…
For the contest, I’ve asked people to tell the Breaking the Mirror community how their body image falls […]

As I mentioned in my last post (a fascinating interview with Glenn Gers, the writer/director of the new movie disFIGURED) Glenn was amazing enough to send me two DVDs.
One is for me to review…
THE OTHER disFIGURED DVD COULD BE YOURS!
This is a movie that you might not have the chance to see in your local […]

“Ask and ye shall receive.”
That’s my motto. So I asked and I received… in a wonderful way!
What did I ask? Specifically for an interview with Glenn Gers, writer/director of the new movie disFIGURED. It’s a movie about women and weight… and so much more.
Glenn has agreed to give us some insight into why he felt […]

As you’ve grown older, has your body image improved?
This is a question I often ask women, especially those who are forty and older. (And I’ll be 37 this year, so I’m headed toward “midlife”, whatever that means.)
Personally, my body image hasn’t changed much since I was a teenager. It’s a little bit better, but not […]
