In August, a post I wrote about whether or not death was a motivator in recovery soared to the top of the Breaking the Mirror statistics.
I highly respect the thoughtful comments that it has generated thus far and invite you to contribute to the discussion.
For example:
Are you afraid enough of dying to stop your disordered eating ways?
Does death scare you?
Do […]

Most of you will not be surprised to hear what I’m going to say:
You can get pregnant even if you don’t have your period.
Yep, it’s what everyone learns in junior high (maybe middle school). But for anorexics (and some bulimics), it’s worth repeating.
Why am I bringing this up? Well, a friend who is seriously anorexic […]

The beginning of the school year is an understandably stressful time for students, parents, educators and even retailers. Unfortunately, all that stress can lead to one thing if you’ve spent your summer working on recovery from an eating disorder — relapse.
Really, relapse is common and to be expected in many cases of anorexia, bulimia and […]

How will you make a difference today in the way someone feels about his or her body?
How will you kick Ana and Mia’s tushes?
If you’re not certain, I have a few suggestions:
Don’t talk about how you hate your body today. Zip up your lip.
If you see someone (especially a woman) who looks good, TELL HER. […]

Dear Readers:
I have asked several other people who have experience with eating disorders to write a little something for the Breaking the Mirror site.
The piece below is by Erika, the exceptional blogger and Lambchop Bijoux jewelry designer. Erika is “re-feeding” her body right now, a process that’s probably foreign to those who have never […]

I was so impressed when Jennifer Love Hewitt spat back at the nasty media last November/December. They (namely TMZ and the tabloids) called her fanny flabby; she told them to buzz off because she wasn’t fat. It was wonderful! A Hollywood A-lister finally understood how we “ordinary” gals felt! It was empowering.
That was then.
THIS is now.
Guess […]

Educate others about the facts surrounding eating disorders. Dispel the myths that surround anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. Find opportunities to talk with others, whether in small groups at your church or larger groups at a high school.
Work on getting healthy inside and out for yourself if you’re struggling with an eating disorder. It’s […]

I truly credit working out (in a healthy, wise manner) for assisting me in having a better body image. So I want to encourage all Breaking the Mirror readers to head over to Grounded Fitness.
There, the focus is on yoga, Pilates and all sorts of fun athletic stuff. Bloggers Kelly and Susan are absolutely hilarious, […]

With almost 300 entries, our Breaking the Mirror “Let Freedom ‘Bling’” contest generated so much interest, it made me incredibly excited for last night at midnight to finally come!
And now, we have a winner!
Thanks to the help of a random number generator (I never could have picked who was most deserving… never!), the winner of […]

It’s fascinating when bloggers (who ostensibly do not know one another) start talking about the same thing, isn’t it?
In the following cases, the topic has turned to hair. I know it’s not directly related to eating disorders, but any gal knows that her tresses (or lack thereof) can make a huge difference in terms of […]
