Confessions of an eating disordered restaurant patron
Dear Female Server:
You probably don’t know that I have poor body image. And you probably don’t care.
But I have a confession to make.
If I feel you’re much thinner than I am, I’ll never order dessert, thinking you’re laughing at me behind my back.
Yes, it’s a sickness. Sorry about that.
(But I’ll still tip 20% because I think serving is tough and you deserve to be compensated!)
Yours,
Eating Disordered Restaurant Patron

P.S. Speaking of eateries… For anyone who has ever read the Waiter Rant blog, I wanted to mention that the Waiter has finally revealed himself! You can see him (his name is Steve, by the way) at this NY Post site.

I too feel guilty ordering desert at restaurants - however, mainly because most of the items on the menu there are absolutely gross!

I used to be a waitress. I never laughed at anyone behind their backs but my confession is I would use my fat customers as reverse-thinspiration. By watching them eat(usually without their mouths closed or making a mess) I would disgust myself so that all the good food I had to serve wouldn’t tempt me. I know where you stand and I know the other side as well. No one is laughing at you. But I guess I understand that that statement won’t necessarily make the feeling go away. -jessica
