Celebrate Independence from EDs: “Let Freedom ‘Bling’” Contest!

by angelique on July 7th, 2008

 Celebrate Independence from EDs

with

Breaking the Mirror’s

Let Freedom ‘Bling’ Contest!

So you like jewelry. And you want to kick Ana’s (or Mia’s) scrawny butt by making women around the world feel beautiful in their own skin.

Why not show your commitment to encouraging better body images in females by giving away a one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted set of earrings to your favorite gal?

Up for grabs are these gorgeous, sparkling Carnelian briolette earrings.  They are one of a kind by Lambchop Bijoux designer, Erika Shoemaker.

er08br.JPG

Ms. Shoemaker relocated her business from Ventura, CA, three years ago and has since designed for bridal parties, custom one-offs and, more recently, has provided her pieces for charitable donations.

These 14k GF Spanish Carnelian drop earrings are accented by faceted Blue Topaz with Amber glass beads. They are the perfect length for wearing to the office, yet they transition easily into evening wear.

The retail price is $48, but the winner of this contest will receive them as a complimentary gift!

Here’s how to win these dangling beauties:

  • From today until July 17, 2008, midnight (EDT), I am inviting you to leave a comment telling me who you would give these earrings to and why you’d give them to that person. (Yes, you can say you’d keep them… and no one would blame you!  Just make sure you tell us why you deserve ‘em!)

On or around July 18, 2008, I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner and will announce it ASAP.

Easy, right?

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention something else that should REALLY get everyone excited…

All profits from the sales of Lambchop Bijoux are dedicated to providing treatment for the designer, Ms. Shoemaker, in her recovery from anorexia.

Ms. Shoemaker is currently reviewing IP (in-patient) programs, and wants her clients to know that every purchase helps! So for the month of July and August, receive a generous 25% off of all Lambchop Bijoux items, in addition to Free Shipping!

You can visit Ms. Shoemaker’s website at www.lambchopbijoux.com to view the current collection, or log on to http://chewzlife.blogspot.com/ and click on the Flickr box to the right, where you will be able to view past collections, including other available pieces.  Her creations are one of a kind, so if you have an idea, please share - she’d love to work collaboratively with you to design something totally unique.

I would give them to a girl I correspond with over email that struggles with bulimia, that I met through my personal blog. She reminds me so much of myself when I was sick, and I think she could use a physical reminder of how great she is doing and how proud I am of her cause I cant be that for her.

I’d give these to my spirit sister, who is so generous of spirit and of heart. She is having a tough time lately, bad body image issues, bad relationship with food issues, and also lost both of her parents between the day before Christmas in 2007 and the middle of April, 2008. These earrings would be a real blessing for her, and she would look SO good in them.

A part of me wants to keep them for myself because I clearly need a reminder when I look in the mirror to boost my body image. But I think I’ll give them to someone I’ve met along the way in my own recovery process. Someone who struggles with body image like me. Someone who’s been there for me and figuratively speaking, held my hand, in the craziest of times. And so if there was something that would make her smile when she looks in the mirror, to feel comforted, to give herself a break for not being perfect…well then I would really want to give her that.

Considering that I don’t know too many people that would wear this type of earring, I’d probably wind up just keeping them for myself. I work in a male-dominated field, so I don’t dress too ‘girly’ at work. These earrings would be great for those days that I want to feel ‘girly’.

when i was a very young child my friend Jenn and i were playing in a park while our mothers were matching each other in tennis. Jenn has always been the “big girl” in our group of friends and struggled with her weight forever. on that day after having one of the best afternoons i could remember i told her “i used to think you were just fat, but now i think your nice” i didn’t understand at the time how much i had hurt her by saying that. i would give them to her. she has impeccable style and even though she is still a bit overweight she looks GREAT! and has accepted herself the way she is. GO JENN!!!

    Jul 10, 2008 at 7:47 pm

I would want to keep them as a gift to myself. I went through a really hard struggle recently in my life and with faith in God and determination and hope, I made it through.

Erika, God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness and I know you will overcome this disease and be triumphant. I will keep you in my prayers and God bless you. I had a friend years ago who suffered also from anorexia and bulemia and she got so thin and nothing we could say to her would stop her from making herself sick or trying not to eat. We finally told her parents because we were really afraid that she could get really sick. She ended up getting treatment and it took time but she got better. I have lost touch with her as the years have passed but I do know that last I heard she was doing great.

Thank you for donating the earrings and take care of yourself! Kristi

I love ‘em, but I think my sis would love ‘em even more, so I’d give the earrings to my beloved sister. I am still trying to atone for mean things I did to her when we were kids, and a gorgeous pair of earrings would go a long way toward achieving sibling atonement!

I would give these to my mom.

We almost lost her a year and a half ago to a heart attack. The doctors put a stint in and put her on 8 different medications. A month later she had to have a pace maker put in because her heart was just too weak to keep rthym on its own.

She lost over a 130 lbs and her heart is doing better. But, she doesn’t feel pretty any more. I think she is beautiful.

She has always put everyone before herself, even to this day.

I would love to show her how grateful I am to have her as my mom and how much I appreciate her sacrifices.

These earrings are stunning! They would be the perfect wedding gift for my friend in TN. She has beautiful reddish hair and pale skin that the earrings would compliment. I would love to send her a package full of sunshine including these earrings! She is simple (a mother of a toddler) yet girly — exactly what these earrings are! As you stated, they can be be daytime and glamed up for evening time looks…. Perfect for a mom on the go!

Hi, I would give them to my niece. She was married for 6 years to a verbally abusive husband. When we had family get-togethers, he would tell her if she would eat, she would get fat. After her divorce, that message has stayed with her. Her mom is my older sister. There are times, we have seen nothing in her refrigerator. She is very picky about what she eats. She is undergoing medical care and therapy for her obsession. The earring would go to her. Please enter me in your delightful drawing. Thanks…..Cindi
