Questions from anorexics and bulimics
I’d like to develop a series of questions from anorexics and bulimics to people who have never had an eating disorder. Then, I’ll invite non-ED folks to tell us a little bit about what it’s like on “the other side.”
To start, I would love to know the answer to questions such as these (again, they are directed at people without eating disorders):
- Do you worry about food when you eat it? Do you count how many times you chew? Do you tell yourself, “I am only allowed to eat [x-number] of bites?”
- When you gain weight, what do you do? What do you think about? Does it bother you?
- If you miss several workouts, how do you feel?
- When you make a mistake, do you punish yourself in some way?

I don’t have an eating disorder. I have issues and body image problems but categorically not ED. (Some of you might disagree knowing my recent struggles). I think I can answer these questions differently than someone with an ED. So if my opinion counts, then fine. If not, then fine. It’s true i’m confused about where or what I am but Angelique i’ll let you decide.
1. I do worry about food when I eat it. I don’t count how many times I chew or tell myself how many bites I can take.
2. When I gain weight, I panic. I change my eating to more salad and protein and exercise more. I think about how people are probably noticing and judging me. It bothers me extremely.
3. if i miss several workouts I feel trapped in a rut. I feel disappointed in myself. I feel scared to go back to the gym and see the flabby version of me again in the mirror.
4. When I make a mistake I say “oops.” and move on.
