Barbie Girls
There’s a new trend sweeping the nation… elective cosmetic surgery! Woo-hoo!
You can have your nose shaved down, your chin enhanced, your boobs enlarged (sometimes to casaba melon proportions), your bottom tightened and your thighs practically sucked away.
I’ve been wondering for some time if this desire for perfection goes hand-in-hand with the whole “thin is forever in” thing? Could the person who doesn’t really want to binge and purge or heavily restrict calories simply turn to plastic surgery to achieve “Barbie/Ken” results?
Obviously, not every individual can afford such a drastic way to whittle down body measurements. Cosmetic surgery is costly and insurance won’t pay for it unless it’s necessary (and we’re not talking about necessary here.)
So could this type of “fix” be a fast way for the wealthy to engage in disordered behavior while having their cake and at least nibbling it, too? And would YOU ever consider plastic surgery to minimize your perceived “imperfections”?

I think getting under the knife is already ‘in’. It already is a solution for quite a lot of people - naturally, for the wealthiest type, but those are role models as well.
Gastric by pass surgery is one of the solutions to stay slim.
It is amoral, but is there any moral where money is?

I wonder if people will continue to do this now that the economy has turned so bad?
